Mocha Cold Brew Smoothie Bowl
Almost two years ago, I was walking with my friend around her neighborhood when she casually mentioned that a new smoothie place called Pure Green had just opened on her block. When I ordered the Mocha Cold Brew Smoothie, I fell in love. It was so incredibly delicious that I would find every opportunity to visit the location, even if it meant going out of my way just to indulge my craving. After time had passed, I decided to recreate the recipe and turn it into a smoothie bowl so I could enjoy it at home. It is healthy, naturally sweetened, and full of mocha flavor.
INGREDIENTS (Yields one smoothie bowl)
- 1 1/2 Frozen, ripe bananas*
- 1/3 Cup vanilla or chocolate almond milk
- 1/4 Cup cold brew coffee
- 1 Heaping tbsp. smooth, unsweetened almond butter
- 1 Tbsp. Raw cacao powder
Optional: 1 Scoop vegan chocolate or vanilla protein powder, I use Sunwarrior
*Using frozen, very ripe bananas are crucial to this recipe. When the bananas are frozen, the smoothie bowl has a smooth, ice-cream like consistency. The ripe, preferably spotty bananas are the natural sweetener in this recipe. If unripe bananas are used, the overall taste will be quite different.
*If you do not have raw cacao powder, you can sub in cocoa powder to give off a similar taste. However, it will not provide the same health benefits that the raw cacao powder has.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Blend all ingredients together in a food processor or blender, and blend until smooth.
- Transfer to a bowl and top with you favorite toppings! Some of my favorites are coconut shreds, cacao nibs, sliced banana, chia seeds, and my favorite granola.
